This morning some workers from New England Nurseries were here and began to install our raised garden beds. They got a lot done before the rain started!

Raised Beds Coming To Davis!
Nat Brown and his crew at New England Nurseries have been working hard on the raised beds for our big garden behind the modular classrooms at Davis School. Here are a few photos he sent last week of the process. His team will be at Davis this week to install the beds. Thanks so much to Nat Brown and NE Nurseries for building the beds and BEST for funding this amazing project!

Bulbs and Cleanup
Mrs. Marino and Miss Petrocelli had some parent volunteers work with their classes to clean up the garden near the entrance to our school. Then they planted bulbs that will come up in the spring.

The Garden is Ready!
Thanks to the fantastic parents and kids who have completely cleaned out the garden and got it ready for our raised beds to be built! It was a huge effort, and with some weeding help from a few classrooms too, we will be planting bulbs and other things in no time!

Unusual Insect
Mrs. Seldon's kindergarten class spotted this insect in the field at Davis School. Anyone know what kind of bug this is?
Post your guesses in the comment section at the bottom of this post!

Fall in the Garden
Hello teachers and families!
We are moving forward on our garden and wanted to update you all. We have a group of 17 parents who have volunteered to help us weed the garden in preparation for the construction of our raised beds. Thank you all for getting on board before we can actually even do any planting!
We hope to see our cleaned out raised beds ready to plant before winter arrives. In the next few weeks teachers who are interested in having a bed in which to plant will let us know so we can make sure everyone who wants to plant with Davis kids will have a space. Then teachers will contact our volunteers and make a plan for what they hope to do with their classes.
We are all looking forward to gardening once again with our Davis kids!

Coming Soon!
We hope to meet with some landscapers in the next few weeks to have them help us build our raised beds, install a fence and clear the beds for fall planting. Mrs. Davies and a group of teachers from Davis as well as parent volunteers will hopefully be able to assist classrooms in planting once the beds and garden are ready! And thanks to a local Daisy troop for making our beautiful sign!

Earth Day Planting
Some students at Davis School participated in a special Earth Day celebration. The entrance to our school now looks beautiful thanks to a bunch of first and second graders!
Mrs. Kimball-Dorey described the project: "The flowers and rocks were done when five classes participated in an Earth Day celebration the Friday after April vacation. We hope to decorate rocks every year and add to the growing borders around the front of the building. "
Thanks to all of the classrooms who helped make our school and gardens look great!

A Wildflower Garden
The kids in the modular classrooms created a special garden right outside of their back door. They got some dirt, raked it out to cover the concrete, made a rock path and then each child threw a handful of seeds into the soil. There are little plants coming up all over and they hope to see wildflowers before summer vacation!

Our New Garden Site
Yesterday we watched a bulldozer mark off a section of the back field behind our school and scrape off the layer of grass. It was loaded into a dump truck and hauled away. This is where our new garden will be!
