Kids and teachers want to share our garden rules so everyone can help take care of this special place!

  Davis Garden Rules

                                                   Always walk in the garden.
Stay on the paths.
Pick only with permission.
Garden only in your classroom bed.
You can sit on the wood frames of the garden beds
but do not stand.
  Use tools carefully.
Put all tools back in the shed neatly.
Weeds go in the compost bin.
Do not climb or lean on the fence.
Plants in this garden are for Davis students only.
Birds are living in our bird houses...
please do not disturb them.
Observe, measure, explore, discover, enjoy!

Davis School Garden

Our garden has flourished this summer-both in flowers and weeds! Looking forward to getting classrooms out in the garden again to clean it up and then plant for a spring harvest!

Second Grade Planting

Garden Clean Up

Mrs. Harary and Mrs. Davies' first graders cleaned out their garden bed with Mrs. Johnson's help. They also raked out the paths and spread new wood chips.

Planting Day Lilies

Ms. Lua and Mrs. Shamon's second graders helped us plant day lilies rescued from Springsbrook Park.

Today's Nature Idea-Make Huge Bubbles!

Ingredients

· 6 cups water (distilled is best but tap water is fine)

· 1/2 cup blue Dawn dish detergent I used “ultra concentrated”, but Dawn original is even better.

· 1/2 cup corn starch

· 1 tbsp baking powder (not baking soda)

· 1 tbsp Glycerine

You will also need a giant bubble wand.

HOMEMADE GIANT BUBBLE RECIPE

1. Dissolve Cornstarch-Dissolve cornstarch in the water, stirring really well.

2. Add Remaining Ingredients-Stir in the rest of the ingredients, being very careful not to create a lot of froth.

3. Let it Sit-Allow your bubble mixture to sit for at least an hour before using, stirring occasionally when you see the cornstarch settling to the bottom.

Note: Some of the cornstarch won’t dissolve completely and may even settle to the bottom when you’re using your bubble mixture, but it won’t affect the quality of your bubbles.

HOW TO MAKE A GIANT BUBBLE WAND:

I used two drinking straws, and a length of yarn that was 6 to 8 times longer than the length of one straw. Thread the yarn through the straws, tie a knot, and you’re good to go!
