Getting Ready for Spring!

From Meighan Matthews, our local garden guru:

March/April/May (what to think about now):
-plant seeds inside (grow lights or a sunny window)
-plant seeds and seedlings outside (label what you plant)
-brainstorm and agree on rules to protect the garden
-observe your plants (measure, draw, write, photograph, make predictions, etc.)
-observe the environment (weather, other things growing, leaves on trees)
-harvest, taste, donate, maintain, invite your class families to get involved

Vegetables to plant and harvest spring or fall:
lettuce
cilantro
radishes
peas
baby spinach
beets

Herbs to  plant which will come back year after year (perennials):
mint and oregano (try in pots near your garden bed-these will take over!)
chives
dill
tarragon
thyme
(plant these outside as seedlings, not from seed)
